At what age can a child be taken to an osteopath?
0 years! For the newborn, birth represents a traumatic event that often generates compressions that are unable to resolve spontaneously. During the expulsion phase, the newborn is exposed to enormous forces, it must rotate and twist as it is pressed together between the bones of the pelvis in the passage to the outside world.
Sometimes the delicate tissues of the newborn are compromised by the dynamics of the birth or by what happens during a difficult birth with a long labor, a caesarean section, a twin birth, due to the use of suction cups or forceps, for obstetric maneuvers, due to the twist or too short umbilical cord etc.
Osteopathic treatment consists of gentle pressure on specific points in the head and spine to induce a physiological recovery of the structures.
