Pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment
A pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment is a specialized evaluation performed by a physiotherapist trained in pelvic health. It focuses on the muscles, joints, ligaments, and nerves of the pelvic region to address conditions related to pelvic pain or pregnancy and postpartum issues. The assessment helps identify dysfunctions in the pelvic floor muscles and guides a personalized treatment plan.
Key Components of a Pelvic Physiotherapy Assessment
-
1. Detailed Medical History
o Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and specific concerns.
o Topics may include pregnancy history, surgeries and other. -
2. Postural and Movement Assessment
o Your posture, alignment, and movement patterns (e.g., walking, bending) are observed to identify factors affecting your pelvic health.
o The therapist may check for muscle imbalances, joint restrictions, or weakness in surrounding areas like the hips, lower back, and abdomen. -
3. External Examination
o Evaluation of the pelvic region externally, including the abdomen, hips, and lower back, to assess muscle tone, strength, and coordination.
o Palpation of the pelvic area may help identify areas of tenderness, scar tissue, or muscle tightness. -
4. Internal Examination (Optional)
o An internal vaginal or rectal exam may be performed (with your consent) to directly assess the pelvic floor muscles.
o The therapist assesses: Muscle strength and coordination (e.g., ability to contract or relax muscles). Tissue health (e.g. signs of scarring, prolapse or tenderness). Presence of muscle tension, weakness or trigger points. -
5. Functional Tests
o Assessments like coughing, squatting, or lifting may help evaluate how your pelvic floor functions during specific activities.

Pregnancy training and postnatal training
Pregnancy training and postnatal training
Pregnancy training and postpartum training tailored individually for you. At Amager and Nørrebro in Copenhagen you will find our clinic, where we offer both pregnancy training and postpartum training. This may be relevant for you who either want to maintain good shape throughout pregnancy or perhaps need rehabilitation after giving birth.
It's a good idea to keep your shape intact throughout pregnancy up to the birth. This is because the body comes under extreme pressure during childbirth. Giving birth is a huge feat of strength. Prioritizing pregnancy training and physical activity throughout your pregnancy will make the birth easier to get through. In addition, it boosts both your baby's and your health.
Of course, we customize the training to suit you, your pregnancy and your level - this applies to both pregnancy training and postnatal training. Every pregnancy is unique and the body reacts differently to the physical changes. We help you adapt the exercises to your individual needs and comfort level. This reduces the risk of injury and discomfort and ensures that training is both safe and effective. After giving birth, individualized training can help rebuild the body, strengthen muscles and improve overall body condition, while taking into account any specific challenges you may experience after pregnancy.
We are also happy to help with pregnancy physiotherapy if you need it.
